that in a minute. talking about votes, though, today is the primary day in detroit. and your workers and members are under particular assault in this emergency management, and now bankruptcy in detroit. and detroit is being used as a symbol of attack by the right wing. let me show you -- let you hear rush limbaugh in an attack he has been making when he was talking to fox news about detroit last week. >> that town has been a petrie dish of everything the democratic party stands for. everything the democratic party loves. massive unions, massive pensions, pay people pensions and health care long after they've stopped working. the math doesn't add up. you have massive welfare states where citizens are given things left and right in order to buy their votes. >> limbaugh on the right going right after the people's pensions, right after workers rights. it is a real wall with working class people in detroit. >> it is. and i think that rush needs to be educated on the right of issues. let's deal with the fax. first of all, nobody is arguing about the fact that detroit is experiencing severe economic cr

, responsibility. not just some. >> you know, lee, in detroit where they just filed bankruptcy, they are actually talking about messing with people's pension. that the autobillionaires companies got bailed out and they're talking about taking workers pensions. and people want to know why we're marching? >> the retirees pensions in detroit average $19,000 a year. yet they want to attack the workers, they want to attack retirees. we've got to say no. we are not going to let that happen. they are using workers as scapegoats. that's one of the reasons we're out here tomorrow and we're going to be here until we're able to fight successfully for workers rights all over this country. it is a shame that folks would go after a retiree who makes $19,000 a year expecting they can sacrifice more. we've got to say no to that, al. all of us. our communities, our coalition partners, labor unions. we've got to say that's unacceptable in the richest country on the face of the earth. >> dennis, the speech we all remember was "i have a dream." but the person who called this march 50 years ago was a labor leader nam

it to go in another direction. it's another step closer to making new york city like detroit. >> we've heard this kind of talk before. but america is a different country. voters are rejecting 40 years of gop scare tactics. voters are supporting the obama administration's move to end severe mandatory sentences for low-level nonviolent drug offenders. of course, over at fox, they don't get it. >> they're not pot smokers. they're not pill poppers. >> wait a second. 50%. but the thing, what if the kid has a drug problem? >> then you get the kid to rehab or lock him in the basement or do what you have to do. that's what parents do. >> who thinks that one of these elderly people who have been in prison for a mandatory minimum sentence, that they're going to get out and they're not going to be on public assistance? of course they are. >> so we should keep people in prison to keep them off public aid? we should just lock up people with drug problems. this kind of demonizing and fearmongering is really nothing new for the right. it goes all the way back to president richard nixon. >> america

. they're meeting in boston reminds me when they were held in detroit. remember that, reverend? saying it was going to be a new urban outreach. and that hasn't happened yet with the gop. and, you know, we saw what happened with the romney election and the gop autopsy itself showed that they have turned off people of color, women, single women. single white women. and others as well. and that they also had a large group of white male conservatives. males who did not show up to vote. because they were not excited by mitt romney's approach. so their problems are pret pi obvious. you're right. they haven't made moves in that direction of outreach. >> you know, victoria, every time you think you say a ray of light they make sure the clouds coming. no, no, no light here. and i'm referring to senator mitch mcconnell. he said, and i'm quoting him, that shutting down the government will not prevent obama care from being implemented. take a listen to this. >> the federal government wouldn't shut down obama care. most of it is permanent law and not effected by that. >> now, that's true and that's
